This course introduces a range of techniques, materials, and approaches for acrylic painting. Topics include tool and material selection, composition, color theory and mixing, underpainting, washes, glazing, masking, and the depiction of light, shadow, and depth.

Prerequisites

ART 143 with a grade of “C” or higher or instructor approval.

Student Learning Outcomes

1.    Demonstrate foundational acrylic painting techniques, such as layering, glazing, and creating textural effects.
2.    Apply color theory principles to mix and apply colors effectively in acrylic painting.
3.    Apply compositional principles to create balanced, visually engaging acrylic paintings.
4.    Employ rendering, shading, reflection, shadow, highlight, and texture techniques to achieve depth and realism in acrylic painting.
