As a continuation of ART 161, this course is designed to further explore basic hand-forming, wheel work, design, glazes, decorative processes, clays, and firing.

Prerequisites

ART 161 with a grade of “C” or higher or instructor approval.

Student Learning Outcomes
    1. Manipulate clay and be sensitive to the natural properties.
    2. Form a hand-built vessel using the slab method.
    3. Form a vessel using the coil method.
    4. Form a vessel on the wheel.
    5. Judge problems in handling materials and make needed changes.
    6. Load kiln with greenware and fire.
    7. Mix glazes and glaze pottery.
    8. Load kiln for glaze firing and fire.
    9. Participate in class discussions/critiques.
