This course continues the content of SPA 101 introducing students to the basics of the Spanish language. The course focuses on building beginning skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while helping students develop practical vocabulary and an understanding of essential grammar. Through a variety of class activities and cultural materials, students gain confidence using Spanish in everyday situations and become familiar with key aspects of life in the Spanish‑speaking world.

Prerequisites

SPA 101 with a grade of “C” or higher or instructor approval.

Student Learning Outcomes

1.    Demonstrate the ability to describe objects, places, and people in Spanish with creativity and improvisation when addressing factual topics.
2.    Express feelings and opinions in Spanish, providing basic reasons or justifications.
3.    Narrate past events in Spanish by employing appropriate past tenses and including essential details.
4.    Explain preferences and aversions regarding objects, places, people, and events in Spanish, providing supporting details.
5.    Participate in simple face-to-face conversations in Spanish by initiating, responding, and contributing, primarily using the present tense and occasionally the past tense.
6.    Combine ideas using object pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions, albeit infrequently.
7.    Identify fundamental cultural norms, beliefs, and regional differences within Spanish-speaking regions.
8.    Explore online resources related to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
