This course provides an intermediate-level study of Spanish, emphasizing the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Instruction is conducted in Spanish and integrates the culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Placement eligibility is available to students who have completed four years of high school Spanish or possess equivalent experience in a Spanish-speaking country.
Prerequisites
SPA 102 with a grade of “C” or higher, or instructor approval.
1. Demonstrate conversational proficiency at the Intermediate I level.
2. Develop effective listening comprehension skills in Spanish.
3. Enhance reading comprehension skills in Spanish.
4. Strengthen written communication skills in Spanish.
5. Increase knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural and historical contexts of the Spanish-speaking world.
6. Describe objects, places, and people with moderate creativity and improvisation, particularly on subjective topics such as technology, politics, personal relationships, and the environment.
7. Narrate sequences of events with moderate elaboration.
8. Maintain simple face-to-face conversations by initiating, responding, and contributing with some spontaneity.
9. Describe cultural norms, values, beliefs, and regional variations within Spanish-speaking communities.
10. Analyze significant historical figures and events relevant to the Spanish-speaking world.
11. Evaluate key literary works by Hispanic authors.
