This course is a continuation of SPA 201, providing intermediate study of the Spanish language with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Instruction is conducted in Spanish. Students with equivalent experience in a Spanish-speaking country may be approved for placement by the instructor.
Prerequisites
SPA 201 with a grade of “C” or higher, or instructor approval.
1. Exhibit proficiency in Spanish conversational skills at the Intermediate II level.
2. Exhibit advanced listening comprehension skills.
3. Describe objects, places, and people creatively and with improvisation on topics related to basic needs, as well as on factual and subjective subjects.
4. Narrate sequences of events with detailed elaboration.
5. Maintain simple face-to-face conversations with native speakers or their equivalents, demonstrating the ability to initiate, respond, and contribute with some spontaneity.
6. Express situations involving volition and doubt with substantial elaboration.
7. Articulate emotional responses to factual information with moderate elaboration.
8. Combine related ideas using pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions, and adverbial phrases with moderate frequency.
9. Apply the writing process to progressively complex topics in Spanish.
10. Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate reading passages with a clear internal structure.
11. Expand knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural and historical characteristics of the Spanish-speaking world.
12. Interpret cultural norms, values, beliefs, and regional variations within Spanish-speaking regions.
13. Analyze significant historical figures and events in the Spanish-speaking world.
14. Identify literary movements distinctive to Hispanic authors.
