Continuation of ART 178. An introductory course in the study and application of classifying, selecting, cutting, shaping, and polishing minerals and gemstones. An additional fee is required.
Prerequisites
ART 178 with a grade of “C” or higher
Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify fifteen different rocks of gemstone quality.
- Successfully operate a 16-inch Slab Saw and 10-inch Trim Saw with instructor supervision.
- Cut, shape, and polish five cabochons with little evidence of cracks, scratches, or flat areas on the finished gem.
