This course provides foundational skills for family history research, enabling students to expand their family trees. Participants may concentrate on a single ancestor or a specific group. During the course, students will be able to search billions of ancestor profiles, photographs, and historical documents to find information about their ancestors. Students will learn to identify and document key dates and to interpret census data, while building their family tree.
Prerequisites
None.
1. Identify individual members within the student's family tree.
2. Utilize available tools and options on FamilySearch or Ancestry platforms.
3. Generate a fan chart to display seven generations of the family tree.
4. Locate a specific ancestor using FamilySearch or Ancestry databases.
5. Input names, dates, and locations associated with an ancestor.
6. Document personal memories or stories related to an ancestor.
7. Tag an ancestor in a photo.
8. Locate sources that provide personal information (birth, marriage, christening, and death dates).
9. Attach a verifiable source to an ancestor's record.
10. Merge duplicate records.
11. Utilize record hints to obtain additional information about an ancestor.
