This course is intended for students at the Beginning Spanish I level. It emphasizes the development of speaking, reading, writing, listening comprehension, and cultural understanding through multiple instructional methods.
Prerequisites
Reading proficiency as established by District Policy.
1. Demonstrate the ability to engage in Beginning I level conversations in Spanish.
2. Develop knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural and historical contexts of the Spanish-speaking world.
3. Use and respond to formulaic and courtesy expressions, formulate questions to address basic needs, and express basic needs in Spanish.
4. Describe objects, places, and people in Spanish.
5. Express basic biographical information about oneself and others in Spanish.
6. Narrate daily activities and routines of oneself and others in Spanish.
7. Respond to and participate in very simple face-to-face conversations in Spanish, with limited spontaneity, using frequently used expressions and learned vocabulary.
8. Apply the Spanish alphabet and phonetic system, including the rules of stress and accent marks.
9. Identify components of Spanish-speaking cultures, including physical aspects such as personal space and customs, non-verbal communication such as gestures, geographical features, and the arts.
