This course examines the experiences of racial and ethnic minority groups in diverse societies, focusing on the social, economic, and political challenges they face. Students evaluate major theories of prejudice and explore research on discrimination, desegregation, and assimilation. Emphasis is placed on understanding how intergroup relations develop and change over time.

1. Define and use key concepts related to race, ethnicity, prejudice, and discrimination in written and verbal discussions. 
2. Explain major theories of intergroup relations and illustrate how they apply to real world situations. 
3. Analyze how identity, power, and social institutions contribute to unequal outcomes across different communities. 
4. Evaluate social, economic, and political factors that influence immigration patterns and assess U.S. immigration policy in context. 
5. Identify connections between prejudice and broader issues—such as deprivation, hate crimes, and environmental injustice—and discuss their implications. 
6. Assess examples of inclusion and exclusion across racial and ethnic groups and propose informed ideas for improving intergroup relations.
