Gila Community College is unable to articulate or provide transferable credits until a formal relationship with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges is established. Please see Accreditation Status for additional information. The information below is intended for the institutional self evaluation report to apply for a formal relationship.
What Is Transfer and Articulation?
Transfer is the process which students move between colleges and institutions of higher education.
Articulation is the process of which Gila Community College courses are approved to transfer for credit at another institution.
Students who plan to attend Gila Community College before applying for university transfer, should take courses that are transferable and fulfill admission and lower division general education courses required for their intended degree of study.
Students are encouraged to work directly with an Academic Advisor to determine the best transfer degree or certificate and specific courses within their chosen major to fit their educational goals.
Transfer Degrees
Gila Community College offers transfer degrees designed to facilitate transfer to another institution. These degrees provide a pathway for students pursuing a baccalaureate degree or higher. For a list of transfer degrees visit Curricula.
Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC)
The Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) is agreed upon by Arizona public community colleges and universities. Through this agreement, students can build a curriculum that is transferable upon completion without loss of credit to another Arizona public community college or university. Arizona public universities include Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona. For more information visit Arizona General Education Curriculum.
Using the SUN System
SUN courses are a subset of transferable courses. SUN (Shared Unique Number) System is the standard system designed to help Arizona students plan their education and ensure successful transfer of course credits. Courses have a unique SUN designation that represents direct course equivalency at all Arizona public community colleges and universities. SUN courses are indicated in the Gila Community College catalog and online schedule. More information is available at www.AZTransfer.com/sun.
Gila Community College has many courses that are transferable that are not designated as a SUN course. For a full list of transferable courses, students should refer to the college catalog or the Course Equivalency Guide on www.AZTransfer.com.
AZTransfer
Students who plan to transfer to another Arizona College can use AZTransfer.com to determine how their credits will transfer to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona.
Students looking to transfer their credits to another institution are encouraged to work directly with an academic advisor to create an academic plan.
Out-of-State Transfer
Students who plan to transfer their completed credits to an out-of-state institution are encouraged to work directly with a Gila Community College Academic Advisor. It is recommended that students also work with an advisor at the future institution or use their transfer tools. Many institutions have their own transfer tools located directly on their website.
