This course introduces the fundamental operation, care, and maintenance of major automotive systems, including engine, fuel, ignition, suspension, brakes, electrical, and drivetrain components. Students gain foundational knowledge of system functions, basic troubleshooting, and routine service practices that support safe and reliable vehicle performance.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Apply established safety procedures and protocols during all automotive service activities.
2. Perform manufacturer‑recommended vehicle lubrication and inspection services.
3. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to support reliable engine performance. 
4. Service and maintain drive belts and cooling systems according to industry standards.
5.  Inspect safety, lighting, and signaling systems to verify proper operation.
6. Evaluate basic electrical systems and replace components as required. 
7. Use foundational electrical testing and measurement tools to diagnose basic issues.
8. Service and repair basic ignition and fuel system components.
9. Inspect and repair brake, suspension, and steering systems to  ensure safe vehicle operation.
10. Perform preventative maintenance and basic adjustments on transmissions and transaxles.
11. Interpret manufacturer service information, technical manuals, and maintenance schedules to guide service decisions.
12. Document inspection results, maintenance procedures, and repairs using standard industry formats and terminology.
