This course covers the theory, diagnosis, and service procedures applicable to all automotive internal combustion engines. The course includes engine rebuilding and performance testing, and prepares students for the ASE certification test in engine repair.

1. Abide by appropriate safety procedures and protocols.
2. Assess the mechanical condition of an internal combustion engine. (NATEF I A)
3. Conduct repair procedures on engine block components and assemblies. (NATEF I C)
4. Execute repair procedures on cylinder head and valve train components and assemblies. (NATEF I B)
5. Conduct service procedures for engine cooling systems. (NATEF I D)
6. Conduct engine lubrication and preventative maintenance services. (NATEF I D)
7. Diagnose engine cooling systems to identify required repairs. (NATEF I D)
8. Diagnose engine lubrication systems to identify necessary repairs. (NATEF I D)
