This course provides an in-depth examination of the theory, diagnosis, and repair of automotive brake systems. Topics include general braking principles, system terminology, and the functions of disc and drum brake assemblies. Instruction focuses on the proper operation and use of brake servicing equipment, as well as the diagnosis and repair of hydraulic systems, power-assist mechanisms, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). Students acquire practical experience in comprehensive brake system service procedures.
Prerequisites
None.
1. Adhere to all mandated safety procedures and shop protocols during brake system servicing.
2. Interpret service documentation, technical specifications, and diagnostic data to facilitate accurate and efficient brake system repairs.
3. Analyze hydraulic brake system data to diagnose performance issues using a structured, strategy-based methodology.
4. Conduct hydraulic brake system repairs or replace components to restore proper system operation.
5. Evaluate disc brake system condition through inspection and testing methods to diagnose operational issues.
6. Repair or replace disc brake components to reestablish optimal braking performance.
7. Assess drum brake system performance to identify operational faults and determine suitable corrective actions.
8. Repair or replace drum brake components to restore proper system function.
9. Analyze brake power-assist system performance to identify faults and determine required repairs.
10. Repair or replace brake power-assist components to reestablish correct assist operation.
11. Diagnose and isolate the root cause of anti-lock braking system (ABS) malfunctions using systematic testing procedures.
12. Confirm brake system performance following service through inspection, functional testing, and quality control procedures.
