This course will provide the student with the skills required to enter the field of general carpentry maintenance including estimating, layout, building component placement, and structure assembly.

Prerequisites

None.

Student Learning Outcomes
    1. Identify the various lumber and fastening materials used in residential construction.
    2. Express components of a safe carpenter’s workplace.
    3. Interpret plans, specifications, and building codes.
    4. Describe the use of commonly used hand and power tools.
    5. Apply techniques for properly accomplishing the building layout.
    6. Assess different footing and foundation systems.
    7. Distinguish different types of floor framing systems.
    8. Calculate wall and ceiling framing methods.
    9. Demonstrate an understanding of different roof framing techniques.
