Introduction to the basic manipulative skills in manicuring, professional image and conduct, and personal hygiene. Includes basic sciences in bacteriology, sanitation, and physiology pertaining to the head, face, hands, and arms. Theory and use of electricity and light as applied to cosmetology. The course also includes Arizona laws and rules governing cosmetology.

Prerequisites

Acceptance into Gila Community College’s Cosmetology or Nail Technician Program.

    1. Identify laws, rules, and regulations of Arizona State Board of Cosmetology.
    2. Analyze basic sciences of bacteriology, sterilization, and sanitation related to cosmetology.
    3. Demonstrate basic manipulative skills in manicuring, facials, and various hair treatments.
    4. Demonstrate theory and use of electricity and light as applied to cosmetology.
    5. Display a professional image.
    6. Demonstrate effective business administration skills.
