This course provides students with the techniques needed to service and repair various types of HVAC systems. Students will develop the ability to diagnose system malfunctions by applying the knowledge acquired throughout the course. The skills gained will prepare students for professional careers in the HVAC industry.
Prerequisites
HVA 101, HVA 103, and HVA 110 with a grade of “C” or higher, HVA 105 with a grade of “C” or higher or concurrent enrollment in HVA 105, or instructor approval.
1. Explain the procedures for servicing and installing small hermetic systems.
2. Demonstrate the correct procedures for charging air-conditioning units.
3. Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic problems.
4. Install heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning systems, along with their associated components.
5. Interpret schematic diagrams for air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems.
6. Demonstrate the selection and safe, proper use of various heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning tools and equipment.
7. Solve mathematical and applied science problems necessary for the effective installation and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems and their components.
8. Predict performance issues and troubleshoot heat pump systems.
9. Adhere to all applicable regulations and codes to ensure personal and public safety while performing work.
