This course provides an overview of refrigerant flow and examines the devices essential to the operation of refrigeration and air conditioning units.
Prerequisites
HVA 115 with a grade of “C” or higher or instructor approval.
1. Describe the fundamental principles of vapor compression in the context of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
2. Evaluate the function of compressors and identify appropriate operating conditions.
3. Identify and differentiate among various types of expansion devices.
4. Analyze specialized refrigeration components and distinguish among compressor types, condensers, metering devices, and evaporators.
5. Disassemble a compressor and accurately identify its individual components.
6. Safely evacuate and recover refrigerant from refrigeration and air conditioning systems in accordance with standard procedures.
7. Troubleshoot refrigeration systems to identify and resolve operational issues.
