This course provides an introduction to essential workplace health and safety practices in accordance with OSHA General Industry standards. Students will examine the purpose and requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) and the role of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in promoting safe and healthy work environments. Emphasis is placed on identifying, evaluating, and preventing common workplace hazards, with a focus on high-risk activities and industry-specific safety concerns. Upon completion, students will be able to recognize potential hazards, apply safe work practices, and contribute to maintaining a culture of workplace safety and compliance.

1. Explain the importance of OSHA in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for employees covered by OSHA Regulations.
2. Explain the origin of Process Safety Manage and the requirements involved with PSM.
3. Explain the importance of and requirements for managing health and safety in working environments.
4. Define Fatal Risk Management and the process for eliminating fatalities in the working environment.
5. Explain the purpose of and requirements for Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection.
6. Explain the type of Personal Protective Equipment used in varying working environments their purpose, and how to use and maintain PPE.
7. Explain the importance of Hazard Communication and the different ways that hazards are communicated to employees in working environments.
8. Explain the hazards associated with the handling of common materials in work environments.
9. Define a Confined Space and the difference between Permit Required and Non-Permit Required Confined Spaces and the requirements for working in such locations.
10. Explain the hazards of working in elevated areas and the Personal Protective Equipment used during working at height activities in the work environment.
11. Explain the purpose of lockout/tagout procedures and what activities would require lockout/tagout.
12. Explain the importance of proper machine guarding and the potential hazards associated with unguarded or inadequate guarding on machinery and moving components.
13. Explain the hazards associated with welding/cutting and brazing activities and the requirements to perform such activities in a safe and healthy manner.
14. Define Industrial Hygiene and the importance of Industrial Hygiene in the work environment.
15. Explain the different potential Bloodborne Pathogens in the working environment and the procedure to prevent exposure.
16. Explain the hazards of working around electricity and electrically operated equipment, and procedures to protect employees from the hazards of electricity and electrically operated equipment in the working environments.
17. Explain the common hazards associated with Crane and Rigging activities and the requirements when performing said activities.
18. Explain the potential hazards associated with Hydraulic and Pneumatic equipment and the procedures to follow to prevent injuries.
19. Explain the possible hazards and prevention procedures for walking and working surfaces in the working environment.
20. Explain the potential hazards of operating and working around Powered Industrial Vehicles and the requirements for keeping employees safe in the working environment.
