This course provides students with a working knowledge of threaded components and fastening systems commonly encountered in industrial maintenance. Emphasis is placed on correct identification, installation, and torque application of fasteners to ensure mechanical integrity, reliability, and safety in industrial plant operations.

1. Describe the role and importance of fasteners in the industrial world.
2. Interpret nomenclature for threaded fasteners.
3. Demonstrate the ability to drill and tap a hole.
4. Demonstrate the ability install a Heli-coil (thread repair kit).
5. Identify existing threads with a thread gauge.
6. Choose correct torque specification for a variety of threaded fasteners.
7. Demonstrate the ability to correctly torque a variety of fasteners.
8. Demonstrate the ability to extract broken fasteners.
