This course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to diagnose, test, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems used in industrial equipment. Topics include hydraulic pump efficiency testing, micro-leak testing, hydraulic system functions, failure modes, diagnostic instruments, and systematic troubleshooting procedures. Emphasis is placed on the proper use of diagnostic tools to identify system faults, determine root causes, and improve equipment reliability and performance.

Student Learning Outcomes

1.    Demonstrate correct procedures for doing an in-circuit hydraulic pump efficiency test.
2.    Demonstrate correct procedures for doing a direct access hydraulic pump efficiency test.
3.    Demonstrate proper use of a micro-leak test pump on various hydraulic components.
4.    Describe the 5 departments of a hydraulic system as it pertains to troubleshooting.
5.    Describe how hydraulic diagnostic instruments can be compared to a medical physician diagnosing a patient.
6.    Describe the 4 types of failure modes in hydraulics.
7.    Describe the standard path of diagnosis when troubleshooting hydraulic systems.
