This course introduces the fundamental concepts of inert gas welding with a metal inert gas (MIG) welder. Students will acquire foundational welding techniques applicable to various materials.

Prerequisites
None
1. Identify GMAW equipment components, perform safety inspections, and carry out required external repairs.
2. Set up GMAW equipment for welding plain carbon steel, aluminum, and 3XX stainless steel.
3. Perform GMAW surfacing welds in the flat position on plain carbon steel, aluminum, and 3XX stainless steel using short circuit and spray transfer methods.
4. Produce fillet welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions on plain carbon steel using the GMAW-S process.
5. Complete groove welds in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions on plain carbon steel using the GMAW-S process.
6. Perform GMAW-S welds on plain carbon steel to achieve ASW-1 workmanship standards.
7. Produce fillet welds in horizontal and vertical positions on aluminum using the GMAW process with spray transfer.
8. Complete groove welds in flat and vertical positions on aluminum using the GMAW process with spray transfer.
9. Produce fillet welds in horizontal and vertical positions on 3XX stainless steel using the GMAW process with short circuit transfer.
