This course focuses on developing preclinical skills fundamental to dental care delivery, such as the operation of dental handpieces and hand instruments. The course also addresses moisture control, anesthesia, and pain management.

Prerequisites

DAE 107 with a grade of ā€œCā€ or higher or concurrent enrollment in DAE 107.

3.    Describe various hand instruments and their appropriate clinical applications.
4.    Demonstrate proficiency in oral evacuation, rinsing, and isolation techniques.
5.    Describe topical and local anesthetics and outline the techniques for their preparation and delivery.
6.    Describe the different types of dental materials and their specific clinical applications.
7.    Describe the procedures for tooth preparation for restoration, including the selection and application of appropriate dental liners, bases, and bonding agents.
8.    Describe the different impression materials and demonstrate the correct technique for taking dental impressions.
9.    Identify and describe the equipment and materials commonly used in a dental laboratory setting.
10.    Explain coronal polishing in dental practice.
11.    Outline the sequential steps for applying dental sealants.
12.    Demonstrate effective techniques for assisting in general dental procedures.
13.    Describe the matrix systems utilized in restorative dental procedures.
14.    Describe different types of fixed prosthodontics and how to assist in patient care.
15.    Explain and demonstrate the responsibilities of the dental assistant during endodontic procedures.
