This advanced-level course is intended for certified Fire Fighter I personnel who aim to broaden their operational skills and obtain Fire Fighter II certification. The curriculum extends foundational firefighting knowledge and introduces advanced competencies necessary for leadership positions and complex incident response. The course aligns with NFPA 1001, 2019 Edition standards.
The course emphasizes fire chemistry, building construction, administrative policies, and advanced firefighting techniques. It prepares students for Arizona Structural Fire Fighter certification through the Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence (ACFSE), utilizing International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) standards and assessments.
Successful completion of the Fire Department Operations II course requires a minimum score of 70 percent, in addition to passing the AZCFSE Fire Fighter II examination and associated skills assessments.
Prerequisites
FSC 101 with a grade of āCā or higher, or concurrent enrollment in FSC 101.
1. Assume and transfer command within an Incident Command System (ICS).
2. Supervise personnel during interior and exterior fire suppression activities.
3. Control and extinguish fires involving ignitable liquids and gases using appropriate foam and extinguishing agents.
4. Operate hose lines in coordination with ventilation and rescue operations.
5. Perform vehicle extrication using hand and power tools.
6. Stabilize vehicles and remove victims safely in simulated rescue scenarios.
7. Identify potential evidence related to fire origin and cause.
8. Secure and preserve the scene to support fire investigation efforts.
9. Accurately document fireground activities and outcomes using National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) compliant reporting formats.
10. Communicate incident details clearly and professionally in written form.
11. Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of firefighting tools, PPE and apparatus.
12. Identify and report equipment deficiencies according to department protocols.
13. Present fire prevention and safety information to community groups.
14. Support department outreach initiatives through educational demonstrations.
15. Exhibit effective communication and decision making in high-pressure environments.
16. Lead small teams during tactical operations with attention to safety and accountability.
17. Successfully complete all practical skill evaluations as outlined in the AZCFSE Fire Fighter II Practical Skills Certification Packet.
18. Pass the written examination with a minimum score of 70% demonstrating mastery of Fire Fighter II knowledge and competencies.
