This course provides an in‑depth examination of the scientific principles of human nutrition and their application to promoting health. Students study the functions and sources of nutrients, fundamental aspects of nutrient metabolism, and the relationships among diet, lifestyle, and overall well‑being. The course also addresses the principles of medical nutrition therapy as they relate to common health conditions and the appropriate use of dietary supplements. Additional topics include current nutrition and food selection guidelines across the life span, as well as evidence‑based methods for planning dietary intake and assessing nutritional status.

1. Identify and explain the functions of essential nutrients in the human body, describe their interactions, and discuss the health effects associated with both nutrient deficiencies and excesses.
2. Analyze personal dietary intake over a three-day period using evidence-based nutrition principles, and propose realistic strategies to enhance nutritional status and overall well-being.
3. Describe and evaluate nutrition-related strategies for the prevention and management of selected chronic and infectious diseases.
4. Interpret current national nutrition guidelines and apply these recommendations to support healthy food choices throughout the life span.
5. Assess nutritional status using standard tools and methods, and draw evidence-based conclusions regarding dietary adequacy.
6. Explain the roles of diet, lifestyle factors, and dietary supplements in promoting health and supporting evidence-based nutrition recommendations.
