The Certified Caregiver’s role will focus on the geriatric population in assisted living facilities. Topics to be taught include overview of the assisted living facility; legal and ethical issues; communication; infection control; nutrition; safety and emergency procedures; health and social service needs; caring for cognitively impaired residents, medication management; and basic caregiver skills. Basic caregiving skills based upon the concepts above will be reinforced through online work and skills lab. Students completing this course will be prepared to take the knowledge examination for certification by the Arizona Board of Nursing’s Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers (NCIA/ALFM). 

Prerequisites

NUR 100 with a grade of “C” or higher.


Additional Requirements
1.    Current LNA license through AZBN.
2.    Must have worked as a CNA/LNA at least 6 months, have no outstanding complaints or restrictions on CNA/LNA certification.
3.    Must be 18 years of age at the start of the class.
4.    Present proof of current DPS Fingerprint Clearance.
5.    Present proof of TB immunization or chest x-ray; and
6.    Present proof of MMR, Hep B, and COVID immunization or have an approved waiver.
7.    Drug screen.
8.    Submit documentation of prerequisite completion along with the completed Proof of Prerequisites Form to the Records and Registration Office prior to registration.
