This course introduces licensed cosmetology professionals to the fundamentals of teaching and learning within cosmetology education. Students explore instructional strategies, learning styles, and techniques for presenting both theory and practical skills in a salon-training environment. The course emphasizes preparation of instructional materials, lesson organization, demonstrations, student assessment, and professional communication. Students will practice teaching foundational cosmetology services, including haircutting, roller techniques, and chemical applications, while incorporating safety, sanitation, and professional standards. Attention is also given to building positive relationships with students and clients, fostering an effective learning environment, and developing the leadership qualities expected of future cosmetology instructors.
Prerequisites
Student must have a current cosmetology license and instructor permission.
1. Apply basic teaching principles and instructional techniques to support learning in cosmetology classroom and laboratory settings.
2. Design instructional materials, including lesson plans, demonstrations, and theory presentations that address course objectives.
3. Demonstrate and explain foundational cosmetology services, including haircutting, roller placement, and chemical procedures for hair, skin, and nails.
