Cosmetology V begins the second year of the part-time cosmetology program. Building upon foundational principles, second-year students revisit core theoretical concepts with enhanced comprehension while refining technical skills through practical client services in our student salon.

Prerequisites

COS 104 with a grade of “C” or higher.

  1. Identify and explain the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology’s rules and regulations, including licensing requirements, professional standards, and legal responsibilities applicable to cosmetology practice.
  2. Outline how the beauty industry has evolved throughout the ages from simple grooming techniques to modern advances that define cosmetology in the twenty-first century.
  3. List career opportunities for licensed cosmetologists.
  4. Explain life skills and list the principles that contribute to success.
  5. Employ tools such as goal setting, time management, and study strategies.
  6. Demonstrate a professional image and attitude.
  7. Explain and employ principles of infection control.
  8. Describe Federal and State regulatory agencies.
  9. Explain the structure, function, and composition of hair and scalp.
  10. Identify hair types and growth cycles, and recognize what influences hair’s strength, elasticity, and color.

  13. Describe professional tools and products and demonstrate their use.
  14. Detail and perform hairstyling procedures including natural textured styles, curl formation, blow drying, updo techniques, and wet-sets.

  17. Demonstrate and explain the uses of various haircutting tools.
