This course covers the safe and efficient use of welding tools and techniques to repair and maintain industrial machinery. The course emphasizes the fabrication of guards and brackets, welding of dissimilar metals, structural welding, out-of-position welding, GMAW welding, SMAW welding, air arc gouging, various grinding and cutting tools, shears, breaks, and rollers.
Prerequisites
WLD 101 or WLD 108 with a grade of “C” or higher or instructor approval.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify safety as it applies to the welding industry.
- Identify specific welding joints designed as used in welding repair situations.
- Fabricate a sheet metal project.
- Use measuring and layout tools to mark metal for various cuts.
- Produce accurate cuts on various metals to make accurate repairs using a variation of machines and cutting processes.
- Produce sound welds using the oxyacetylene welding (OAW) equipment as required for welding repairs.
- Select proper shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) electrodes to be used in welding repair situations.
- Produce sound welding repairs using the shielded metal arc welding process (SMAW).
