This course covers detailed electrical procedures, fundamental electrical principles, circuit and meter reading, component identification, and the interpretation of symbols and wiring diagrams in air conditioning control systems. It also includes installing contacts, relays, and overloads, as well as troubleshooting techniques relevant to HVAC-R technology. The course emphasizes the practical application of HVAC-R concepts.
Prerequisites
HVA 101 with a grade of “C” or higher, or concurrent enrollment in HVA 101, or instructor approval.
1. Describe the fundamental properties of electricity.
2. Identify electrical control and safety systems commonly installed in modern HVAC-R systems.
3. Explain basic electrical properties and relevant electrical codes used to determine appropriate wire size for HVAC-R loads.
4. Apply core principles of electricity, electrical current, and circuit design to the operation of air conditioning equipment.
5. Apply Ohm's law to perform electrical calculations.
6. Conduct continuity, voltage, and current tests using appropriate electrical meters.
7. Demonstrate compliance with established electrical safety protocols.
