This course focuses on the preclinical skills needed for delivered dental care including dental handpieces and dental hand instruments. Topics also include moisture control, anesthesia and pain control.
Prerequisites
DAE 107 with a grade of “C” or higher or concurrent enrollment in DAE 107.

- Identify hand instruments and proper usage.
- Develop skills in oral evacuation, rinsing, and isolation techniques.
- Identify topical and local anesthetics and the setup techniques for delivery.
- Describe the different types of dental materials and their uses.
- Explain how to properly prepare a tooth for a restoration and the proper dental liners, bases, and bonds to use.
- Describe the different impression materials and demonstrate how to take an impression.
- Describe the different equipment and materials used in a dental laboratory.
- Explain coronal polishing in dentistry.
- Identify the proper steps in applying dental sealants.
- Identify and demonstrate how to effectively assist general dentistry.
- Identify the matrix systems used in restorative dentistry.
- Describe different types of fixed prosthodontics and how to assist in patient care.
- Describe and demonstrate the assistant’s role during endodontic procedures.
