Certificate of Proficiency

Cosmetology Nail Technician

20206

Advisors: Sara Brewer (Gila Pueblo) and Rebekah Cheney (Payson)

The Nail Technician Certificate provides structured training in the theory and practice of professional nail care. Students receive instruction in manicuring, pedicuring, nail enhancements, infection control, product chemistry, and state safety and regulatory standards. Clinical practice in a supervised learning environment ensures competency in required practical skills.

The program includes 600 clock hours, typically completed over two semesters, meeting Arizona State Board of Cosmetology requirements for licensure eligibility. Graduates who complete all coursework, competencies, and clock hour requirements qualify to sit for Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board nail technician licensing examination.

A per credit course fee applies to all Cosmetology/Nail Technician courses. Fees vary by Academy location based on instructional materials and equipment needs.

Entry into the Cosmetology/Nail Tech program requires prior admission.

Special Note: A high school program is also offered to qualified students through a career and technical education school district (CTED/CVIT/NAVIT). The high school program meets four hours (4) a day, five (5) days a week, and eight (8) hours on each of the two required Saturdays a month during the regular school year. The high school program will take two (2) semesters to complete and is a Fall start only beginning their junior or senior year.

Students must complete 300+ hours in each semester to equal the 600 hours needed to test for the State Board of Cosmetology/Nail Tech License

The foregoing is a recommended, or suggested, sequence of courses. If a student enters the program in the Spring, or transfers credit in, the above would have to be modified.
