The Emergency Medical Technician Certificate prepares students for entry level work in emergency medical services through foundational training in pre hospital patient care, assessment, and life saving interventions. Instruction includes classroom learning, simulation, and clinical experience, with emphasis on meeting Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of EMS standards for pre hospital emergency care. Graduates are prepared for employment in ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, and related emergency response settings.


Note: Students are eligible to sit for the National Registry EMT Exam upon successful completion of EMT 103, Emergency Medical Technician.


Program Learning Outcomes
1.    Conduct patient assessments for medical and trauma emergencies in accordance with nationally recognized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) standards.
2.    Deliver safe and effective Basic Life Support (BLS), including airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bleeding control, and injury stabilization.
3.    Demonstrate competency in pre-hospital emergency care procedures as mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
4.    Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers through clear, professional, and compassionate verbal and written interactions.
5.    Operate safely within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, including scene assessment, ensuring personal and patient safety, and appropriate utilization of EMS equipment and transport procedures.
6.    Apply ethical decision-making, legal principles, and cultural sensitivity in the provision of emergency medical services across diverse community settings.
