The Cosmetology Certificate program provides comprehensive instruction in the theories, practices, and professional standards of cosmetology. The curriculum integrates classroom learning with supervised practical application in a simulated salon environment, enabling students to demonstrate competency in hair, skin, and nail services consistent with state regulatory requirements and industry expectations.

The program requires a minimum of three semesters to complete the 1,500 clock hours mandated by the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology for licensure eligibility. Upon successful completion of all required coursework, skills assessments, and training hours, students are eligible to sit for the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology Examination.
 

Students who wish to pursue further academic achievement may apply credits earned in the certificate toward the Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology. Completion of the AAS degree requires an additional 18 General Education credits and 2 elective credits, as outlined in the degree plan.

In addition to standard tuition, a per credit course fee is assessed for all Cosmetology courses. Course fees differ by Academy location due to variations in instructional materials and equipment requirements. Admission to the Cosmetology Certificate program is contingent upon prior acceptance through the program’s selective admission process. In addition to general tuition, a required course fee will be applied for all Cosmetology courses. Depending on the Academy being attended, course fees may vary.

Program Learning Outcomes
1.    Demonstrate Competency in State Mandated Practical Skills
Perform hair, skin, and nail services in accordance with Arizona State Board of Cosmetology requirements, demonstrating proficiency in all mandated practical competencies.
2.    Apply Principles of Sanitation, Disinfection, and Safety Compliance
Implement infection control measures, sanitation procedures, and regulatory safety standards to protect clients, practitioners, and the salon environment.
3.    Integrate Theoretical Knowledge with Practical Application
Apply foundational concepts in cosmetology science—including anatomy, chemistry, and product knowledge—to support accurate decision making and effective service delivery.
4.    Utilize Professional Tools, Implements, and Equipment Effectively
Select, operate, and maintain cosmetology tools and equipment following manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
5.    Demonstrate Client Consultation and Communication Skills
Conduct comprehensive client consultations, accurately assess client needs, provide appropriate recommendations, and maintain professional communication and client service practices.
6.    Exhibit Professionalism and Ethical Standards
Demonstrate professional behavior, ethical conduct, and adherence to state laws, rules, and regulations governing cosmetology practice.
7.    Demonstrate Readiness for State Board Licensure Examination
Demonstrate the theoretical knowledge and practical skill competencies required to sit for and successfully complete the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology Examination.
