This is a Payson High School Dual Enrollment Program through NAVIT. 

The Automotive Maintenance Certificate provides foundational training in essential vehicle service and preventative maintenance procedures. Students gain hands-on experience performing routine tasks such as inspections, fluid services, basic brake and tire maintenance, and general under hood and under car operations. This short-term certificate offers an entry point into the automotive service industry and supports preparation for relevant ASE certification examinations. Graduates will be equipped with the practical skills and introductory knowledge needed for entry level automotive maintenance positions.


Program Learning Outcomes
1.    Conduct comprehensive multi point inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns using industry standard checklists and procedures.
2.    Safely and efficiently perform essential services such as oil and filter changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and battery maintenance.
3.    Select, operate, and maintain common automotive tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic instruments in accordance with manufacturer and safety guidelines.
4.    Explain the basic operation of key vehicle systems—including braking, suspension, electrical, and powertrain—to support accurate maintenance and service.
5.    Locate and use service manuals, technical service bulletins, digital information systems, and maintenance specifications to complete automotive tasks.
6.    Follow OSHA and industry safety standards, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and demonstrate professional conduct in a repair facility.
7.    Apply foundational knowledge and service skills to demonstrate readiness for ASE Maintenance & Light Repair (MLR) or related certification examinations.
 

In order to obtain this certificate, you must:

  • Complete each required course above with a grade of “C” or better.
  • File a petition for the certificate.
  • Remove any indebtedness to the college.
  • Complete at least 50% of the credits at Gila Community College.
