The Industrial Plant Maintenance Certificate, also referred to as Fixed Plant Maintenance, prepares students for employment as maintenance technicians in industrial settings such as mining, manufacturing, energy production, and processing facilities. Designed for individuals with little or no prior industrial experience, the program provides foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in industrial safety, applied mathematics, mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical fundamentals, troubleshooting, and reliability-centered maintenance.
The curriculum combines classroom instruction, demonstrations, and applied laboratory experiences using industry-standard tools and equipment to prepare students for the demands of modern industrial workplaces. Through practical training that replicates real-world maintenance scenarios, students develop transferable skills that support employment opportunities across a variety of industrial sectors and provide a foundation for continued technical education and career advancement.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Apply OSHA safety standards and safe work practices in industrial environments.
2. Perform accurate calculations and measurements using industrial mathematics and precision measurement tools.
3. Identify, select, and safely use common hand tools, power tools, fasteners, and workshop equipment.
4. Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and apply this knowledge in basic troubleshooting activities.
5. Inspect, install, and maintain bearings, seals, shafts, and mechanical drives to ensure equipment reliability.
6. Conduct basic alignment procedures and lubrication practices according to industry standards.
7. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot pump systems and bulk material handling equipment.
8. Apply principles of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) to support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
9. Demonstrate professionalism, including dependability, teamwork, ethical behavior, and effective communication.
10. Exhibit workplace readiness, including time management, adaptability, and responsibility.
11. Communicate effectively using industry terminology, technical documentation, and maintenance reporting practice
Curriculum Requirements
In order to obtain this certificate, you must:
- Complete each required course above with a grade of “C” or better.
- File a petition for the certificate.
- Remove any indebtedness to the college.
- Complete at least 50% of the credits at Gila Community College.
Check the catalog for other changes and requirements.
The foregoing is a recommended, or suggested, sequence of courses. If a student enters the program in the Spring, or transfers credit in, the above would have to be modified.
