The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Health Services prepares students for employment in a variety of healthcare support roles in clinical, laboratory, emergency, dental, and long term care settings. This career focused, non transfer degree combines foundational health science coursework, general education, and applied training to support workforce readiness.
Students may earn and apply stackable certificates toward the degree, as noted under the certificate requirements section. Coursework includes classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and supervised clinical or field experiences when applicable.
The program emphasizes patient care and safety, infection prevention, medical terminology, documentation, professionalism, teamwork, and communication. Graduates are prepared for employment in hospitals, clinics, medical and dental offices, emergency services, assisted living facilities, and related healthcare environments.


Program Learning Outcomes
1.    Provide safe and effective patient care appropriate to healthcare support roles in clinical, laboratory, emergency, dental, and long term care settings. 
2.    Apply foundational health science knowledge, including medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, and documentation practices, in healthcare environments. 
3.    Perform technical and clinical skills aligned with selected pathways in one of the certificates listed under the certificate requirements.
4.    Follow safety, infection prevention, and workplace procedures required in healthcare settings. 
5.    Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. 
6.    Demonstrate professionalism, ethical behavior, and cultural awareness in diverse healthcare environments. 
7.    Use critical thinking and problem solving skills to respond appropriately to routine healthcare situations. 
8.    Exhibit workplace readiness, including teamwork, responsibility, time management, and adaptability.

Elective Requirements

To earn this degree, you must select a sufficient number of elective credits numbered 100 or above to obtain the 60 credit hours required. 

In addition to completing each of the courses listed above with a grade of “C” or better, you must meet the following general graduation requirements to obtain this degree: 

  • Complete at least 16 credits at Gila Community College.
  • Attain a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or higher.
  • File a Graduation Petition at least 60 calendar days prior to the end of the semester in which graduation is anticipated.
  • Remove any indebtedness to the college.
