The Welding Techniques and Processes Certificate equips students with foundational skills and practical experience required for entry-level positions in the welding and metal fabrication industry. The curriculum covers essential welding principles, safety protocols, and the correct operation of welding tools and equipment. Guided laboratory instruction enables students to develop proficiency in multiple welding processes, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and oxyfuel cutting.


The program emphasizes the development of proper welding techniques, high-quality workmanship, and a comprehensive understanding of weld symbols, materials, and industry standards. Students gain practical experience producing welds in multiple positions and working with a range of metals commonly used in manufacturing, construction, mining, and industrial maintenance.


Graduates of this certificate program are prepared for entry-level welder positions, advanced technical training, or pursuing an associate degree.


Program Learning Outcomes 
1.    Apply welding safety practices that align with industry standards, ensuring correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and established shop procedures.
2.    Interpret welding blueprints, symbols, and technical drawings to accurately plan and execute welding tasks.
3.    Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and oxyfuel cutting processes.
4.    Produce welds in multiple positions and on various metals, demonstrating proper technique, bead quality, and compliance with welding specifications.
5.    Perform basic fabrication tasks, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and preparing metal components for welding.
6.    Inspect welds for quality and conformance to standards, identify common defects, and apply corrective techniques to enhance weld performance.
7.    Exhibit professionalism, effective workplace communication, and adherence to industry expectations to contribute successfully in welding, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments.
