The Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Training Academy prepares students for careers in municipal, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement and provides the education and training necessary to meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) requirements for peace officer certification. The program combines academic coursework in criminal justice, law, ethics, communication, and community relations with the AZPOST Basic Peace Officer Academy curriculum, including training in criminal law, officer safety, first aid and emergency medical response, firearms, defensive tactics, tactical driving, active assailant response, and professional decision-making. Through classroom instruction, laboratory training, practical exercises, and scenario-based learning, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for entry-level employment in law enforcement and related public safety professions. Graduates will be prepared to pursue certification as Arizona peace officers and continue professional development in criminal justice and public safety careers.

Program Learning Outcomes
1.    Analyze the structure, functions, and processes of the American criminal justice system and the role of law enforcement within society.
2.    Apply ethical principles, professional standards, and legal requirements in law enforcement decision-making and conduct.
3.    Demonstrate effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills when interacting with community members, criminal justice professionals, and diverse populations.
4.    Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate information, assess risks, and make decisions in law enforcement and public safety situations.
5.    Interpret and apply Arizona criminal law, constitutional principles, and criminal justice procedures to law enforcement scenarios.
6.    Demonstrate cultural awareness, professionalism, and respect for diversity when serving individuals, groups, and communities.
7.    Demonstrate competency in first aid, emergency medical response, and CPR consistent with public safety standards.
8.    Demonstrate safe and proficient firearms handling, marksmanship, and use-of-force decision-making consistent with AZPOST standards.
9.    Apply officer safety principles, defensive tactics, tactical driving, and active assailant response techniques during realistic law enforcement situations.
10.    Integrate legal, ethical, tactical, medical, communication, and community-oriented policing principles in scenario-based problem solving.
11.    Locate, evaluate, and utilize information, evidence, technology, and other resources to support law enforcement operations and professional development.
12.    Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies necessary to meet AZPOST academy standards and pursue employment in law enforcement and related public safety professions.
